Real licence plates used on the road in Germany have ‘Stadt Seal’ and ‘Test Plakettes'. The stadt seals show from which area the vehicle is registered and owned. There are many hundred Stadts (areas), each with their own seal design. Many are very appealing in a german gothic way with heraldic shields, mythical creatures and symbols of the area such as the products it’s famous for or features of the area.

The plakettes are indicators of the testing of the vehicle, with the general test one (circular) on the rear plate, and the engine emissions one on the front (hexagonal). The year of test is indicated by colour, with 5 colours cycled in order, Orange, Blue, Yellow, Brown, Pink and Green.

Orange is 2007, but also 2001, 1995 and so on. We added Red, and Silver Grey, just for fun!

NOTE: All our stadt and plakette stickers are near but deliberately NOT replicas of the real item.

They must NOT be used on plates on the public highway in any European country.
